Brunel Judo

Another reminder to ANYONE that is a Brunel student and trains with us - you NEED to join the club. Go to www.brunelstudents.com, go to the Shop, and buy the Sports Federation Membership and the Judo Club membership. If you don’t, the club WILL disappear, and then you won’t be training at all. If you have any trouble, send one of the committee an e-mail - Rob is usually available. If you’re told by the shop that you aren’t a student, or if you need to pay in cash, or if you just hate the Internet, you can go to the Sports and Student Activities office opposite Loco’s and pay in person.

Also, Judo will be hosting a Cops and Robbers Academy night in February. We don’t have all of the details yet, but they’ll be posted here when we do.

Remember to keep checking the News page for updates to training. It’s possible that some sessions may be cancelled over the next few weeks.

Well, that’s it for 2007. Training is now officially over, and it looks like we’re coming back on Monday 7th January.

Thanks to everyone who attended the end of year social. The committee all think it went down very well, so hopefully you do too. You got free food and booze, it can’t have been that bad..

For those of you attending the club social at Uxbridge’s Pizza Express on Wednesday, we will be arriving at 8pm.

If you’ve now been training with us for more than a few sessions, you NEED to become a club member.

Our official member list only had 9 members on it. Specifically, we’re most concerned about those of who you who plan to compete on behalf of Brunel at BUSA next year, and those of you that are training every single lesson but still haven’t gotten around to joining the club.

Given that our Christmas social organisation is underway and it should be happening in a few weeks, we can exclude non-members from the freebies, so make sure you join as soon as possible.

The Student Union are really pushing all of the clubs on campus over this - there will be spot checks to make sure that those people training and competing are actually members, and we don’t want to have to take action against those that arent.

In case you missed it elsewhere on the site or in recent news posts, you join the club through the brunelstudents.com website, and you NEED to be a Sports Fed member before you can join.

If you want to vote in the committee elections, or if you want to apply, you are going to NEED to have a look at this info in the forum. Seriously - we’re a bit late with the elections, so you’re going to need to be quick. We’re trying to get our elections pushed back a bit due to a lack of interest, but you don’t have long.

A few things to cover in this update.

1) Some info about a tournament at the beginning of next year has been posted in the forum, here. Go take a look.

2) Darren has posted some stuff about a Christmas social in the forum, here. Go and vote, post your suggestions, and the like. We know that most of you must like at least one of drinking and eating, so what will you lose? And it’s Christmas. Don’t be a bunch of miserable gits, or we’ll set the dogs on you. (Judo dogs, of course.)

3) Vic will be back to coaching Thursday lessons as of THIS Thursday - December 7th. The last training session will be Thursday December 14th - please be there if you can, it’s always a shame if the last lesson of the year only has a few people bother turning up. We don’t have a definite date for when training will resume next year, but it should be very shortly after you guys all come back from New Year. More info will be posted here in good time.

4) Just because you get the most important bits of the forum summarised here (because Rob is fantastic), doesn’t mean you aren’t missing other things on there. The whole website is new this year because the last one didn’t let the club and members communicate properly - if you don’t make good use of it, we’ll have to kill you. On a similar note, there were some updates to the photo gallery a week or two ago with the Training Pics gallery - it’s like Frame and Shame but without all the boozy slappers

Our new secretary and social secretary is now Darren Fisher
This is following a vote in Bar Zest tonight. Apologies to anybody that wasn’t there and the fact that it wasn’t announced, but Darren has Judo experience and is enthusiastic about helping the club, so we’re sure he’ll do a good job.
